Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to an accessible kamustudio.org, our WCAG 2.2 AA target, known limitations and how to report a barrier.
Our commitment
We want kamustudio.org to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, magnifiers, voice control or only a keyboard. This statement covers kamustudio.org, including the example websites shown on it.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is a target, not a certification: the website has not been formally audited.
What we have done
- Structure. Pages use real headings, landmarks, lists and buttons, and every page starts with a "Skip to content" link.
- Keyboard. Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible purple focus outline.
- Dialogs. The menu, the request form and the example-site viewers move focus inside when they open, keep it there, close with the Escape key and return focus to where you were.
- Forms. Every field has a label; errors are written in text next to the field and announced; the confirmation is announced to screen readers.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, the opening animation, scrolling effects, chapter animations and page transitions are switched off, the opening video shows a still image, and the sound that plays when you choose a plan is not played.
- Screen readers. Decorative animations, large animated words and dotted lettering are hidden from screen readers, which read the real text instead. Text that lights up as you scroll is always available in full to screen readers.
- Without JavaScript. The main page's text is also published as plain HTML, so it can be read without JavaScript.
- Language. The whole site is available in English and Spanish, and pages declare their language.
Known limitations
- Opening video. The background video in the opening screen plays automatically, without sound, and has no pause button. It is decorative. With reduced motion it is replaced by a still image.
- Opening animation. On computers, the page holds scrolling for a few seconds while the opening animation plays.
- Round cursor. On computers with a mouse, a small round cursor replaces the system pointer. It cannot currently be switched off and may be harder to see for some people.
- Sound effects. Short sound effects play when you choose a plan and when your request is sent. There is no mute switch yet.
- Scroll effects. Several sections use large moving words and transitions that are tied to scrolling.
- Example websites are shown inside frames and may not meet the same standard as the rest of the site.
- Currency estimates are approximate; prices in US dollars are the reference.
We are looking at adding a pause control for the video, a switch to mute the sounds and an option to turn off the custom cursor.
Compatibility
The website is built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript and is designed for current versions of major browsers on computers and phones.
